Remittance inflow rebounds in January
DHAKA, Feb 3, 2014 (BSS) – Shedding the negative trend in the previous two months, the remittance inflow rebounded in January, comforting the central bank in marinating its higher reserve.
Data released by Bangladesh Bank (BB) on Monday showed the rebounding trend in remittance – the life blood for the country’s foreign exchange reserve.
The country in January received US$1250.03 million, up from the figures of November and December when the remittance inflow became unstable amidst political unrest. Expatriate Bangladeshis remitted $1216.49 million in December and $1061.45 million in November last year.
With the increased inflow in January, the remittance inflow in the first seven months of the current 2013-14 fiscal reached at $8022.33 million. The amount, however, was lower than $8728.74 million that the expatriate Bangladeshis sent home in the same period of the previous fiscal.
