General Consular Information

Applicants for endorsements i.e. attestation of academic certificates, marriage or divorce certificate, statement of date of birth, certificate for transfer of dead body, alive certificate, driving license, renewal of driving license, transfer of residency certificate / power of attorney PLEASE KEEP A PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR DOCUMENTS IN A SAFE PLACE before submitting to the Consular Wing of the Bangladesh Embassy.

It is an offense to give false information in the Application. Right facilities can be denied on grounds of suppression of factual information, submission of false particulars, willful damage of necessary documents in relation with your application and for making unauthorized changes in the documents.

DEDICATED TELEPHONE HOURS FOR CONSULAR QUERIES (2:00 PM – 4:30 PM ON WEEKDAYS EXCEPT EMBASSY HOLIDAYS)

The Embassy of Bangladesh is pleased to allocate a dedicated timeframe for responding to few consular related queries over telephone. You are requested to call 202-244-0183 and dial the following extension for specific queries:

  1. Ext: 121 – POA (Power of Attorney), DC (Death Certificate) and any other Attestation;
  2. Ext: 207 – Birth Certificate;
  3. Ext: 121 – Consular Window for receiving and returning all kinds of consular related documents, including Power of Attorney, Attestation, Birth Certificate etc;
  4. Ext: 0/100/136 – Status of all kinds of applications;
  5. Ext: 205 – Any other consular issues/miscellaneous matters.

WALK IN: Applications for consular services (Like issue of legalization/attestation of documents, power of attorney etc) are accepted between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Delivery time is between 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. No application is received after 1:00 PM except in the cases of emergencies, such as death or illness in the family.

MAIL-IN-SERVICE: Outstation applicants may send their application for consular service by mail. You must add a return envelope, which, if you are using a courier service must be prepaid by cash, or, if you are using postal service must contain postal stamps in the appropriate amount, with your address on it (preferably USPS express/priority and certified). Please put it to the attention of the Consular Section. We will not accept a return envelope unless it is prepaid by cash or does not contain stamps in the appropriate amount. Payment by credit card or account numbers will not be accepted as, in the past, we had experiences where the recipient’s credit card or account declined payment and the courier billed this Embassy (the sender) as a policy.
Please note that any mail received before 10:00 am on a working day will be deemed as received on that day. Mails received after 10:00 am on a working day will be treated as received on the following working day.

THE EMBASSY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DOCUMENTS LOST IN MAIL. PASSPORT SHOULD NOT BE SENT OUT OF ANY COUNTRY BY POST.

FEE: Please tender the exact amount in the form of Nonrefundable Money order/Bank Draft/Certified Check/Cashier Check payable to the ‘Embassy of Bangladesh’. Personal checks or Cash are not accepted. Please check fees for consular services.

NO REFUNDS: Fees, once received, cannot be refunded, even if the application is withdrawn or service cannot be rendered.

PROCESSING TIME: This is given with the related forms. This time schedule does not apply to services for which reference has to be made to competent authorities in Bangladesh.

The Embassy will get in touch with applicants in cases where the applications are incomplete/incorrect, the fees sent are not adequate or not paid in the acceptable manner or where there are other deficiencies.
