SANGSAD BHABAN, Mar 05, 2014 (BSS)-With the general discussions on thanks-giving motion on the President’s address to House entering the 15 working day today, the treasury bench members hoped that Bangladesh would be a middle income country by 2021 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Thanking the President for highlighting achievements of Awami League-led grand alliance government in different areas, including agriculture, power, education, health and social safety net, the lawmakers said the government will continue to work for the welfare of the people as per its election manifesto.

Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, Whip Md Shahabuddin, AL lawmakers Khandker Azizul Haq Arzu, Golam Mostafa, Salahuddin Ahmed of Jatiya Party and Shirin Akhter of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal took part in the discussions.

The ruling party MPs said that the government has been implementing the 6th Five Year plan to cut the rate of poverty to 22 percent from 26 percent.

Terming the distribution of textbooks among school children by the government a remarkable step, the MPs said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken steps to ensure education for all.

The lawmakers said the government has set up community clinics across the country to reach healthcare facilities at the doorstep of the people.

They said notable progress has been achieved in building ‘Digital Bangladesh’ as students are getting various educational facilities, including results of their examinations, even living in rural areas.

The MPs said the government has been able to maintain democratic process in the country by thwarting terrorism and militancy.

Shirin Akter in her speech thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for successfully holding the 10th parliament elections despite violent activities of BNP-Jamaat. She said the government has already executed the verdict against a war criminal and hoped that it would be able to complete trials of other war criminals.
