Govt. constructs 12-storied dormitory for garment workers at Ashulia: Meher Afroze
SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 17, 2014 (BSS) -State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Begum Meher Afroze today said the government is constructing a 12-storied dormitory at Ashulia in Savar upazila for the female garment workers to resolve their long- standing housing problems.
Replying to a question of treasury bench member Nurunnabi Chowdhury in the Jatiya Sansgsad, she said the dormitory building would have 836 seats. The state minister also informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the government was giving allowances at the rate of Taka 350 per month to lactating mothers in municipality and city corporation areas of 61 districts in the country. Among them, she said the allowances are being provided to 20,939 lactating mothers working in garment factories under Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). The state minister said Taka 43 crore, 12 lakh and 20,000 was allocated for the projects in the current 2013-2014 fiscal. She hoped that the programmes would continue in future. Responding to another question from treasury bench member Didarul Alam, she said that the government was implementing a programme titled “Empowerment of Women Through Technology Transfer” involving Taka 114 crore to ensure women empowerment through imparting training to unemployed womenfolk in the country. In this connection, she said another programme is being implemented from July 2010-14 to provide training to unemployed poor women at the district women development offices in the country’s 64 districts. |
